Volunteer IT Support

Role overviewThe IT administrator will provide part-time voluntary assistance to the IT department, working under the supervision of the IT Lead. This role offers direct experience in supporting the organisation’s IT infrastructure, systems, and users.  Time: Flexible during office hours Monday – Friday Hours: 4-8 hours per week Location: Calbro House, Tuam Road, Galway H91 XR97 and other locations Level of English required: Intermediate Key Responsibilities Technical Support & Systems Assistance Assist with the setup of IT devices under supervision Provide in person support to staff for basic IT tasks, under guidance Help update records of the IT equipment and inventory information  Contribute to documenting notes, procedures during training or supporting sessions Observe and Assist with software installations and updates – where appropriate  Administrative Support & Data Management Assist with entering and updating basic hardware/software records. Help record equipment requests as directed by IT Lead.  Help organise and maintain IT documentation and maintain digital records Support with simple data gathering or formatting tasks for internal IT Reports.  Learning & Development Shadow the IT Lead to gain practical insights into IT support activities Receive ongoing guidance, mentorship and training in commonly used IT tools and systems. Build a foundational understanding of IT support principles and best practices through hands on exposure.  Core Competencies Essential Communication: willingness to explain basic technical issues to non-technical users with support if needed. Reliability: Commitment to attend as agreed and complete assigned tasks responsibly. Passion for learning: Eagerness to learn and adapt in a dynamic IT environment. Team Collaboration: Willingness to work closely with the IT Lead and follow direction. Attention to Detail: Careful and accurate approach to data entry, documentation, and system use.  Desirable Initiative: Willingness to take proactive steps within assigned tasks and seek clarification when unsure. Organisation: Ability to manage time effectively during volunteer shifts and stay organised with guidance.  Preferred Qualifications Experience Familiarity with Windows and Microsoft 365.  Previous exposure to IT support or systems administration (academic or volunteer-based).  Education No formal education requirements.
