In return you will be rewarded with a great package, fantastic culture, challenging role and an opportunity for development and progression. The role:The primary purpose of the role will be to attend and investigate water pollution incidents; undertake field-based monitoring and collect environmental samples for laboratory analysis across the Southern Water region.Weekly contractual hours of 35 hours per week; 9am until 5pm, five days per week (Monday to Friday). 1-hour unpaid lunch break each day. There is a contractual requirement to be on a standby rota, 1 week in 6, for weekend/public holiday and evening work. Overtime paid for instructed works during standby periods.As there is a requirement to travel to multiple client and customer sites, candidates should have a full clean UK driving licence, and be comfortable driving a van.The key tasks and responsibilities associated with the role are:The postholder will attend and investigate water pollution incidents throughout the Southern Water regionThe postholder will undertake field monitoring works including water quality measurements and samplingThe postholder will undertake desk-based data entry after collecting data in the fieldThe postholder will undertake technical report writing in response to water pollution incidents, time limited in accordance with client requirementsThe postholder may be asked to undertake a planned work programme when not attending pollution incidentsThe postholder will maintain all equipment for site and maintain cleanliness of vehicle to a high standard and inform line manager if new equipment is neededThe postholder will provide accurate and timely information to line managementThe postholder will support the team performance by sharing knowledge and best practices at all levelsThe postholder may be asked to attend monthly team meetings with client and contribute where appropriate This list is not exhaustive and the postholders will be expected to carry out any other duties they are qualified and able to.Water Quality Technician Requirements:Degree in a Biological or Environmental Sciences disciplineUnderstanding of water chemistry and the indicative parametersA full clean UK driving licence.
