Theatre Assistant (Peri-operative HCA)

Overview of Role  UPMC Aut Even is a 71-bed private hospital in Kilkenny. Our specialised medical teams provide medical and surgical care to patients supported by a dedicated nursing and wider multi-disciplinary team. The purpose of this role is to provide clinical support out of hours for night staff and ensure continuity of care for patients. The role is responsible for the direct provision of quality service in line with standards of nursing practice and is central to safe patient care. The person should be energetic with enthusiasm to both lead and motivate a team.Duties & Responsibilities   Work as a 2nd assistant to the surgeon assisting with surgical intervention as directed to include positioning/limb holdingAssist in the preparation and checking of theatre equipment as per list and activityComplete check list to ensure equipment and instrumentation is available and fit for purpose.stock Management Assist with the safe transfer of patients within the peri-operative setting including inter departmental transfersAssist in the positioning of patients and the use of appropriate pressure relieving aids.Assist with the collection of specimens as directed by the theatre nurse.Receive specimens from surgical/anaesthetic team, ensure correct labeling, packaging and requisition prior to safe transport to specimen area.Replenish sterile stocks as appropriate ensuring stock rotation.Ensure specified procedure areas and trolleys are stocked.Prepare and open sterile packs, instrument sets, sundries and pour lotions.Position relevant theatre equipment as appropriate.Assist with the gowning and gloving of theatre and medical staff.Ensure items for disposal are correctly bagged/binned and ready for collection as per waste disposal policy.Clean equipment surfaces, ensuring solutions used conforms to infection control policies.Report any faults of fabric, furniture or equipment.Undertake any other duties within the scope of the post as agreed with the theatre manager.EndoscopySupport the RGN in the delivery of effective and efficient patient care.Understand how information is obtained, transmitted and stored during delivery of the care service in endoscopy.Preparation of endoscopy area including the endoscopy wash room.Ensure all endoscopes and supporting equipment is available and fit for purpose.Ensure consumables are available.Assist in the positioning of patients and the use of appropriate pressure relieving aids.Be familiar with the pre cleaning stage, leak testing, manual cleaning, storage and transportation of endoscopes.Qualifications & Experience  FETAC Level 5 in HealthcareMinimum of months experience in a customer focused environment within the healthcare sectorBe flexible in approach adapting to meet the needs of an acute service.Understand how information is obtained, transmitted and stored during delivery of the care service in endoscopy.Use positive communication skills when interacting with patients and relativesDemonstrate evidence of effective planning and organizing skill Critical/Acute Care Experience is essential.Demonstrate the ability to build and maintain relationships including the ability to work effectively as part of a multi disciplinary teamDemonstrate evidence of ability to empathise with and treat patients, relatives and colleagues with dignity and respect.
