As a member of the front line Nursing team, the Oncology Staff Nurse will demonstrate excellent clinical skills, quality patient care initiatives and facilitate effective interpersonal communication with colleagues in the Department and in the hospital. The Staff Nurse will participate in providing comprehensive nursing care to patients using evidence-based practice and adjusting resources to ensure continuity of care. The main duties of the role are toDeliver skilled practical care to Oncology patients and participate in the monitoring of the planning, delivery and evaluation of individualised patient care, ensuring a patient centred focus.Administer chemotherapeutic drugs in accordance with local policy and Department of Health guidelines, keeping patient and staff safety a priority.Be aware of the multifaceted needs of oncology patients and provide a holistic support service for them and their families.Participate in oncology outpatient clinic co-ordination.Be aware of community based support for oncology patients in the area.Ensure that controlled drug records are kept in accordance with standard recognised legal and professional practice.Ensure safe practice is adhered to in the storage and administration of all drugs in accordance with local policy and Department of Health / NMBI guidelines, keeping patient and staff safety a priority.Supervise the nursing practice of less experienced staff members of the nursing team and participate in the educational aspects of that practice.Be aware of the multifaceted needs of emergency, medical and surgical patients and provide a holistic support service for them and their families.The PersonEssential CriteriaThe ideal candidate will have:Full Registration in the General division of the Register of Nurses maintained by NMBI.At least one year recent relevant post-registration nursing experience (full-time or equivalent hours part-time) in an acute hospital settingA recognised post-registration nursing course - Higher Diploma or Post Grad course in Oncology or be in pursuit of sameHold an up-to-date Basic Life Support course or be in pursuit of sameStrong clinical and professional abilityIT skillsExcellent interpersonal and communication skills Why work at the Hermitage Medical ClinicThe Hermitage Medical Clinic are passionate about our people and believe in their development and growth.
