maintained by Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland).·        Evidence of ongoing professional development·        Excellent verbal and written working with Neuro patientsSkills, Competencies and KnowledgeGENERAL ACCOUNTABILITYMaintain throughout the Hospital an awareness of the primacy of the patient in relation to all Hospital activities.Ensure the provision of a high standard of care to the patient and families is consistent with the mission, vision, values and strategic plan of the Hospital.Must have a sense of responsibility with regard to the development, supervision and teaching of student nurses and ward attendants.Support the Clinical Nurse Manager in the implementation of Hospital Policy in all matters.Identify and implement operations of Hospital Policy in all matters.Demonstrate behaviour consistent with the values of the Hospital.Play an active education and be actively involved in Health Education and promotion.SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITY 1.   CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES1.1.    Ensure a high standard of care is delivered safely in accordance with the Hospital         policies and procedures.1.2.    Encourage recognition of the patient as an individual, ensuring patients needs and         comforts are given priority.1.3.    Plan and assess patient care, together with the Nursing Team.1.4.    Communicate with relevant medical personnel regarding patients’ condition and relaying          information and changes in patient management to the Clinical Nurse Manager.        1.5.    Communicates with relatives of patients and with families as requested and arrange for          visits of Hospital Chaplain/Pastoral Care in conjunction with the Clinical Nurse Manager.         1.6.    Facilitate the arrangements necessary and participate where appropriate, in education and          training of other Hospital staff as the need arises. This includes students at both          undergraduate and post-graduate level.______________________________________________________________________________________ 2.    RESPONSIBILITIES 2.1.   Be prepared to undertake the role of Team Leader responsible for organizing and         managing a number of qualified and unqualified nursing staff.2.2.    Assist with the orientation of all new staff to the Unit.2.3.      Endeavour to keep abreast of recent trends in developing by reading widely.2.4.    Report accidents/incidents, complaints to the Clinical Nurse Manager of her Deputy. Ensure that accident/incident forms are completed and returned to the Clinical Nurse Manager’s office.2.5.     Liaise with other hospital staff and departments in order to promote and maintain good working relationships and high standards of care and service for patients.2.6.     Maintain custody of controlled drugs, check and witness administration of such drugs. Ensure that controlled drug records are kept.2.7.     Ensure that the correct quota of all material is supplied to the unit.2.8.   Be willing, in an emergency, to share personnel when requested with other Units or         Hospital departments.2.9.    Be knowledgeable in the structure of careful handling of all equipment used on the unit.2.10.  Be aware of the need to detect and report faulty equipment. Ensure repairs are carried out. 2.11.  Be neat in appearance and wear Hospital uniform at all times.2.12.  Ensure a safe environment for staff and patients.2.13.   Be responsible for oneself and junior staff with regard to training in Cardiac Resuscitation, Lifting and Handling and be aware of the policies regarding fire procedures and  Disaster Plan.2.14.   Supervise duties of all non-nursing personnel. 2.15.   Take part in and contribute to, audit programmes as required._____________________________________________________________________________________ 3.          FINANCIAL  3.1.   Be aware of the Unit Budget and the effectiveness of remaining within the parameters            laid down.3.2.    As part of the Nursing Team, help produce an annual department report as requested.4.   STAFF MANAGEMENT 4.1.   Lead, by example, a professional, punctual and dedicated team.4.2.   Create and promote open communications, healthy working relationships, and stimulateinitiative among Unit Staff.4.3.  Maintain team work and, only when necessary, take action in accordance with the        Hospital’s disciplinary policy.4.4.  Ensure all Unit Staff adhere to the dress code of the Hospital.4.5.  Participate in regular Unit meetings to ensure information is disseminated and issues discussed. 5.      INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY  5.1.   Ensure that oneself makes the most effective and efficient use of developments ininformation technology for both patient care and administrative support in a mannerwhich integrates well with systems throughout the organisation.5.2.   Collect, interpret and present data and information on the Department’s activities,staffing and expenditure. 6.         HEALTH AND SAFETY  6.1.   Ensure that effective safety procedures are in place to comply not only with the Health,Safety and Welfare at Work Act but also within the spirit of the Hospital’s mission,vision and values.  NOTE:  The extent and speed of change in the delivery of health care is such that adaptability is essential at this level of management. The incumbent will be required to maintain, enhance and develop their professional knowledge, skills and aptitudes necessary to respond
