Job Title Senior Physiotherapist: Outpatients Reports Physiotherapist in Charge Accountable Head of Department Hours 35 hours per week ROLE PURPOSE · You must practice within the Codes of Practice, Rules and Guidelines set out by the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists and comply with the policies and procedures of Blackrock Clinic. · To develop and co-ordinate the Musculoskeletal Outpatient Physiotherapy service at Blackrock Clinic. The Senior Physiotherapist will be responsible for conducting a clinical caseload as assigned by the manager and in accordance with service needs. In addition the Senior Physiotherapist will deliver Educational talks and in-services to colleagues, medical professionals as required, take part in service development and conduct assigned administration duties. · Personally and professionally you are accountable to the patient. You are personally accountable for your own actions at all times. QUALIFICATIONS· Degree in Physiotherapy:o BSC (Honours) degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Dublino Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy from the Royal College of Surgeons in Irelando Bachelor in Physiotherapy (Honours) degree from the National University of Irelando Diploma of Physiotherapy of the University of Dublin or the National Universityo BSc (Honours) degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Limericko Physiotherapy qualification validated by the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapy · CORU registered· Recognised post-graduate qualification eg. MSc in Physiotherapy / Sports Medicine / MMACP · Membership of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (MISCP).· Continued Professional Development Diary including evidence of reflective practice, In-service training, courses attended and Clinical Governance gained.· Post graduate courses relevant to the clinical specialty. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES PROFESSIONAL · To assess and provide appropriate management of patients referred for out-patient physiotherapy. · Develop and administer the highest quality of service by identifying and implementing operational procedures in line with best practice standards. · Keep abreast with new developments, skills and technology to ensure continuing competence in the job. · Enhance his/her skills in order to initiate and respond to changes in the work environment as additional roles may be demanded eg. Data analysis clinical audit. · Teach and supervise junior staff and students as required and educate other health professionals · Advise on the needs of the area and contribute to forward planning and development of the physiotherapy service. · Participate in the week- end Rota (a) Cardiac or and (b) Orthopaedic MANAGEMENT · To contribute to an effective and efficient Physiotherapy Out-patient team in co-operation with the Clinical Specialist and Physiotherapist in Charge. · To contribute and participate in staff induction and in-service training. · To maintain adequate records and statistics sufficient for organisation and legal purposes to include work related injuries. · To actively participate in and promote continuing professional development. · To liaise with referring doctors and other medical colleagues as necessary. · To be flexible in working hours, to accommodate delivery of service. · Deputise for Clinical Specialist as necessary. · Other general duties as delegated by the Physiotherapist in Charge after consultation and agreement. · To support the Clinical Specialist / Manager in department development. STAFF MANAGEMENT · To lead by example a professional, dedicated and punctual team. · To create and promote good working relationships through open communication. · Facilitate professional development of team members through promotion of continuing professional development through self-learning, formal courses and in-service training. · To ensure staff compliance with hospital policy on CPR and Manual Handling training programmes. Communication Skills · Report relevant information verbally and in writing to appropriate personnel. · Respond appropriately to patient/family requests and questions. · Communicate appropriately with colleagues and other members of the health care team. · Recognise self-limitations and seek assistance. · Attend and contribute in staff meetings and team briefing. · Communicate in a manner that avoids antagonism, reduces conflict and prevents undue anxiety. Education · To act as a mentor for Physiotherapy colleagues. · To act as an advisor and educational resource on a regional and national basis. · To demonstrate leadership and advice as required on research methodology. · To keep abreast of new developments in the Physiotherapy profession and identify opportunities to improve the service. HEALTH AND SAFETY · To be responsible for overseeing equipment safety tests, in accordance with health and safety policy. · To ensure that faulty equipment is immediately removed from the treatment area and restored to safe use as promptly as possible. · Comply with Health and Safety Policies and Procedures, which includes reporting defects to appropriate authorities as soon as possible. · Communicate and work in co-operation with other team members in providing an integrated quality service.
