Role PurposeThe role of Senior Pharmacy Technician is to contribute to, and to continuously look to improve, the efficient delivery of services to the inpatient departments of Blackrock Clinic. The patient is at the forefront of all practices, in accordance with the mission, values, vision and strategic plan of the Hospital. The inpatient pharmacy opens Monday to Friday 9-5 pm but will include earlier shifts to enhance delivery of services commencing at 7am and some later shifts finishing at 6pm.QualificationsPharmacy Technician certification/equivalent science degree - Certification in different areas of PharmacyAt least three years experience as a Pharmacy Technician.Experience in clinical pharmacy desirable.The responsibilities of the role:· Maintain throughout the hospital an awareness of the primacy of the patient in relation to all hospital activities· Demonstrate behaviour consistent with the values of the hospital· Participate in the pharmaceutical service as part of a punctual, dedicated and professional team· Create, promote and maintain open communications and healthy working relationships· Maintain the principles of equity, accountability and quality in daily work.· Day to day, and week to week management of the Technician Team workload and management of roster to cover absences· The maintenance of accuracy stock levels and participation in stock level audits and year end stock take· Undertake the MDA Controlled Drug Reconciliation· To carry out Top-Up system of drugs to the wards and other departments in line with agreed levels and frequencies· Full operational knowledge of Omnicell ADC’s to assist in efficient and safe product storage· Participate in the supervised preparation of extemporaneous items as required· Operate within the regulations of FMD to receive and check incoming goods for accuracy to order and invoice, and to report and follow up any discrepancies. Includes updates of order receipts on to computer.· Ensure all shortages of product are followed up to ensure stock levels will always meet patient needs· Participation in the compounding unit in accordance with local policy· Developing, updating and maintaining dispensary procedures in accordance with JCI Accreditation· To co-operate with clinical and nursing staff on the efficient provision of services· To undertake such other duties as appropriate to the role as may be assigned· To partake in staff training events and encourage and support the development of the services· Participate in continuing education consistent with the post.· Ensure that the pharmacy is kept clean and tidy and well presented at all times.· Comply with all necessary procedures for security of the pharmacy. · The behaviours we are seeking/encouraging:· Enthusiastic, self- motivated individual with excellent people skills, confidence and demonstrate a willingness to learn.· Highly organised individual who has the ability to work under pressure.· Be a positive, committed, reliable individual who enjoys working in a collaborative environment.· Have the ability to build strong working relationships with all members of the pharmacy team while also being able to work on their own initiative· Be able to prioritise , multi-task and show good organisational skills in a fast paced environment · Flexibility:· The above indicates the main duties of the post, which may be reviewed in the light of experience and developments within the service.· This post requires a high level of flexibility to ensure the delivery of an effective and efficient service.
