The Data and Insights Department at SEAI is responsible for informing evidence-based decision-making and the implementation of sustainable energy solutions through the provision of policy-relevant research and guidance, robust evidence and energy modelling and statistics. In particular, the department is responsible for: providing targeted and timely evidence to inform policy formation, decision-making and implementation.improving the availability and accessibility of data and information to inform the national debate. working with other SEAI Departments and organisations to engage society on energy issues in the context of the wider sustainability agenda.providing economic, technical, behavioural and policy analysis and support to key stakeholders in the Irish energy sector.This position will play a key role in the Data and Insights Department. The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic and innovative team who are committed to the high-quality delivery of SEAI’s Energy Modelling, Energy Policy and Programme Evaluation, Behavioural Economics and Energy Statistics functions. The successful candidate will report to the Programme Manager for Energy Modelling. Essential RequirementsThe successful candidate must be able to demonstrate:A Postgraduate Degree and/or equivalent professional qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Statistics, Engineering, Science or Economics. Minimum four years’ experience of working in these areas, or similar. Excellent IT skills including a proficient use of tools for data extraction, analysis, and presentation.Demonstrated extensive practical experience developing in Python.Experience with version control tools, especially Git.Knowledge of advanced data analysis and modelling techniques.Successful track record of analysing substantial and multi-faceted data and creating clear and concise reports applicable to a wide range of stakeholders. Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences. Passion for climate action and providing evidence base to advance sustainable energy policy.Desirable RequirementsExpertise in Python, with experience developing production libraries or web applications.Knowledge of the energy sector and experience with analysing energy data.Extensive practical experience with Python applied to energy statistics, data science or modelling.Extensive experience working with databases and data pipelines, including design, setup, extraction, and storage optimization.Practical experience in querying data using SQL or similar query language.Experience with cloud services for data processing in Azure or similar.Successful track record in building and maintaining good relationships with external clients.A strong understanding of public sector, industry environment and context. Experience working in the energy sector and awareness of latest research in sustainable energy transition.Eligibility to WorkThe SEAI has a legal obligation to ensure that all employees are lawfully entitled to work in Ireland.
