To lead the nursing and social care teams in demonstrating compassion through effective relationships based on empathy, respect and dignity. To drive the delivery of excellent clinical standards of care, to maintain a proactive culture and to demonstrate clinical effectiveness and continuous quality improvement.   The post holder will provide professional leadership, advocacy and advice to the Hospital Board and will be accountable to the Board for the quality of nursing and social care both delivered to and experienced by patients, residents and service users of Peamount Healthcare.  Operating in accordance with local, regional and national service plans, the Director of Nursing and Social Care will work in collaboration with other professionals and service managers to achieve the service goals of the hospital and to contribute to the wider development of the organization. As a key member of the executive management team, the post holder will share responsibility with fellow managers for developing the hospital’s overall strategic direction and for achieving a high level of performance in nursing quality indicators.   The post holder will be an experienced senior nurse with a full range of leadership skills and a strong ability to develop system wide relationships with other departments and services. They will be a confident and approachable leader who is able to drive cultural change to deliver improved outcomes and experiences for patients and staff.  The post holder will be responsible for delivering a quality service and will work within the structures in place to ensure compliance against the National Standards for Safer Better Healthcare and the National Standards for the Prevention and Control of Healthcare Associated Infections.   Eligibility Criteria Qualifications & Experience Eligibility Criteria 1)   Professional Qualifications, Experience  (a)      Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:  (i) Are registered, or are eligible for registration, in the General Nursing Division of the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland [NMBI] (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann). (ii) Have 10 years’ post registration nursing experience consisting of at least three years’ experience nursing in one of the following:- intellectual disability, older people and rehabilitation in the last six years and 5 years nursing management experience. (iii) Are educated to Level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) maintained by Quality & Qualifications of Ireland (QQI) in nursing or a related field. Principal Duties & Responsibilities Leadership and Accountability:As a senior member of the Executive Management Team share responsibility for the achievement of the organisation’s corporate and clinical objectives. Share responsibility for chairing Hospital committees and steering groups. Act as designated hospital Lead with overall management responsibility for Infection, Prevention and Control (IPC). Play a leading role in the development of Clinical and Social Care Services, underpinning the hospital’s strategy.Lead and develop local management to have a shared sense of commitment in delivering the operational and strategic plan.Assist with service development taking account of the changes in healthcare practices and needs of patients/service users.Provide professional advice to hospital management on the development of nursing and social care services.Oversee and assist with the development & implementation of local and national clinical care programs.Foster a culture in nursing which values staff development planning and in turn empowers nursing staff to achieve excellence in the delivery of patient care. Support and maintain effective communication throughout the nursing teams.To practice in accordance with all current statutory provisions, policies, protocols and guidelines of the Hospital. Dublin. Tenure The current vacancy available is a Permanent post on a full-time basis. The post is pensionable. Appointment as an employee of Peamount Healthcare is governed by the Health Act 2004 and the Public Service Management (Recruitment and Appointment) Act 2004.  Remuneration Remuneration is in accordance with the salary scale approved by the Department of Health: Director of Nursing Band 2 Current salary scale with effect from 1st March 2023: €80,903 (point 1) to €94,590 (point 7).  Working Week The hours allocated to this post are 37.5 hours per week. The allocation of these hours will be at the discretion of the Department Head and in accordance with the needs of the service. HSE Circular 003-2009 “Matching Working Patterns to Service Needs (Extended Working Day/Week Arrangements); Framework for Implementation of Clause 30.4 of Towards 2016” applies. Under the terms of this circular, all new entrants and staff appointed to promotional posts from Dec 16th 2008 will be required to work agreed roster / on call arrangements as advised by their line manager. Contracted hours of work are liable to change between the hours of 8am-8pm over seven days to meet the requirements for extended day services in accordance with the terms of the Framework Agreement (Implementation of Clause 30.4 of Towards 2016 Annual Leave 30 Days Pro Rata Probation All employees will be subject to a probationary period as per the probation policy. This policy applies to all employees irrespective of the type of contract under which they have been employed.
