Job Title:                    National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) – Music LibrarianGrade:                        Music Librarian Reporting to: General ManagerRole Location:           National Concert Hall, Dublin. Due to the nature of this role considerable travel will be required on an ongoing basis to accommodate the orchestra and its programming commitments together with other business requirements both nationally and touring overseas.Job Purpose The National Symphony Orchestra holds approximately 27 main season symphonic concerts per year (September through May) at the National Concert Hall in Dublin. In addition NSO produces recordings as well as popular and educational concerts.The Music Librarian is responsible for carrying out the full range of professional and support music library, archive and information functions expected for a performance and broadcasting orchestra. To develop and maintain the music library of printed music and the catalogue and associated dataMain Responsibilities·       Provide a first class music librarian service and ensure excellent relations with musicians, production departments and other users of the orchestra.Ensure the orchestra has the required performance materials for all activity.To be the main point of contact to the NCH Music Library. To coordinate the movement of music between anywhere else the orchestra is operating.To co-ordinate and book any freelance librarians when required.To liaise with the Orchestra Manager on orchestral line ups. Clarifying line-ups once the orchestral parts have arrived and updating the Concerts & Planning Team.To ensure that any issues regarding supply of materials to artists and musicians are dealt with and communicated to the General Manager, Orchestra Manager and Concerts & Planning Coordinator as necessary.To provide backstage support and management at sessions as agreed with Orchestra Manager and on occasion be the representative of the management.To provide information and answer queries from orchestral members, freelance musicians, management and artists.To be responsible for the National Symphony Orchestra music library and maintaining the retention sets that we hold.Make full use of computer based systems within NCH as a means of accomplishing the demands of the post.To assist the Orchestra Manager in orchestral administrative tasks when required such as tour preparation.Undertake any such other duties as agreed with General Manager, Orchestra Manager or Concerts & Planning CoordinatorTo be part of a dynamic Orchestra Team - and help where required particularly when busy.To undertake domestic and overseas tours when required by the General Manager.The above Job Description is not intended to be a comprehensive list of all duties involved and consequently, the post holder may be required to perform other duties as appropriate to the post which may be assigned to him/her from time to time and to contribute to the development of the role in line with ongoing change within NCH.Person Specification A successful candidate should be able to demonstrate years of experience as an Orchestral Librarian.Good experience of a broadcast orchestra environment (desirable) A suitable qualification in music, librarianship and/or music librarianship (desirable) S/he should possess a wide general knowledge of music and musicians and knowledge of the repertoire of the National Symphony Orchestra.The ability to hand copy orchestral parts and the ability to use a computer based notation system.Ability to apply high professional standards under pressure and without supervision in order to meet strict deadlines.The post holder should have experience in the delivery and running of concerts.Flexibility and adaptability to work in an ever changing environment.Ability to work under pressure.Excellent personal skills especially when dealing with musicians, conductors, soloists and producers.A disposition to help out in any area of the business, when required in extreme circumstancesCompetencies          The following competencies (behaviours and characteristics) have been identified as key to success in the job.Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate these competencies.Leadership & Managing Performance – ability to create a vision and inspire others to realise it irrespective of circumstance.Sets challenging team and individual objectives, sharing clear expectations about required performance levels.Acknowledges success and monitors the performance of their section.Treats team members with honesty, respect and compassion.Influencing & Persuading – ability to present sound and well reasoned arguments to convince others.Can draw from a range of strategies to persuade people in a way that results in agreement or behaviour change.Planning & Organising – is able to think ahead in order to establish an effective and appropriate course of action for self and others.Prioritises and plans activities taking into account all the relevant issues and factors such as deadlines, staffing and resources requirements.Resilience – can maintain personal effectiveness by managing emotions in the face of pressure, set backs or when dealing with provocative situations.Demonstrates an approach to work that is characterised by commitment, motivation and energy.Change Management – can understand and anticipate the need for change. There will a requirement for the post holder to work in other locations outside of the National Concert Hall, DublinAnnual Leave: 23 DaysPension Details: Single Public Sector Pension SchemeRemuneration:              The salary scale for the post of Music Librarian is: €41,438, €42,757, €44,100, €45423, €46,756, €48,253 €49,559, €50,464The pay scale will apply where the appointee is an existing civil or public servant appointed on or after 6th April 1995 and is required to make a personal pension contribution.
