Role Purpose:Contribute to providing a quality clinical laboratory service tailored to the user needs.To assist in the organisation and co-ordination of the Microbiology service.Assist in the implementation and maintenance of a quality management system that meets the requirements of ISO15189 and Joint Commission International (JCI).To assist in training of Microbiology staff in the laboratory for the provision of routine services.To act as deputy for the Chief Medical Scientist when required and liaise with other senior personnel. Qualifications/Experience:Candidates must possess.a)Possess an appropriate Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Biomedical Sciences from an approved UniversityOrb)Possess the Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences of the Dublin Institute of Technology, Kevin Street or the Regional Technical College, Cork awarded prior to 1994Orc) Possess a CORU recognised qualification at least equivalent to (a) or (b) aboveProfessional and technical responsibilities Perform routine work to the highest professional standards, as determined by the Pathology Manager, Senior Laboratory Staff and Consultant.Be responsible for the quality of work and carry out all duties in accordance with the clinic policy.Observe the strictest confidence when dealing with all aspects of patient or hospital information.Participate as required in the registration, custody and stock level of the laboratory reagents and other materials.Provide a safe, comprehensive service based on current standards and research; perform procedures according to established policy and procedures.Participate in quality assurance by assisting to identify recurrent problems and co-operate in data collection and problem solving through the use of the CAPA module in Q pulse.Ensure that all organisms associated with health care associated infections are communicated to the Infection Control Nurse Specialist in a timely manner.Know and practice within the legal requirements including those set down by The Academy of Medical Laboratory Science.Follow good laboratory practice in line with the quality management system and work to ISO 15189, JCI standards and INAB guidelines at all times.Personally and professionally you are accountable to the patient. Disinfection and cleaning of equipment and benches according to laboratory protocol.Professional Expectations Function within the limits of the Academy of Medical Laboratory Scientist, National/International standards and the hospitals’ policies, procedures and standards.Demonstrate flexibility by assisting in other areas of the service as required.Set annual goals and objectives with head of department.Continue to develop personal knowledge and skills.
