Reporting to: Chief Medical Scientist, HistopathologyHours:   37 hours per week    Location: Blackrock, Co Dublin                             ROLE PURPOSEBlackrock Clinic is currently recruiting an enthusiastic administrator to join our Histopathology laboratory team. Our INAB accredited Histopathology Laboratory offers a diverse repertoire of services across routine histopathology, cytopathology, special staining, immunohistochemistry testing, molecular testing and multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings for management of cancer patient treatment. Histology is the branch of biology that studies the microscopic anatomy of biological tissues. Histopathology is the branch of histology that includes the microscopic identification and study of diseased tissue. It is an important part of accurate diagnosis of cancer and other diseases from examination of tissue samples. The successful candidate will work as part of an office-based team responsible for managing Histopathology administration. Key ResponsibilitiesPrincipal duties are not limited to, but include the following:·      Forwarding of referral patient cases to external institutions.·      Management of patient case returns and referrals-in on laboratory information system.·      Patient slide filing.·      Patient card filing.·      Providing support and cover for the Histopathology MDT Co-Ordinator.Communication Skills  •       Communicate appropriately with colleagues and other members of the health care teams to ensure a quality service is provided to all while constantly striving for excellence in patient/customer care.•       Communicate in a manner that avoids antagonism, reduces conflict and prevents undue anxiety.•        Recognise limitations and seek assistance where necessary.•       Attend and contribute to appropriate meetings.•       Accept constructive advice when appropriate.•       Report all incidents immediately, which may adversely affect a patient, colleague or the Blackrock Clinic. General Expectations •       Support the philosophy, objectives and goals of Blackrock Clinic.•       Observe the appropriate lines of authority.•       Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all patients and the activities of Blackrock Clinic.•       Demonstrate flexibility by assisting in all areas of the hospital/clinic as required.•       Participate in developing and providing quality care within Blackrock Clinic.•       Continue to develop personal knowledge and skills and seeks outside educational opportunities.•       Proficiency in IT skills, typing skills, cash handling and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.•       Carry out other such duties as requested by the Manager or his/her deputy.•       Present a professional appearance and conform to the dress, hygiene and infection control policies of the Clinic.•       Flexible attitude to changing work practices. This job description indicates the main responsibilities of the post and is subject to periodic revision and amendment with the post holder.
