Job DescriptionJob Title: Kitchen Porter/AssistantDepartment: CateringReports to: Head Chef/ Sous Chefs/ CMT Date: March 2024Salary €14.80 per hourOverall Purpose of JobWe will provide exceptional patient care in an environment where quality, respect, caring and compassion are at the centre of all we do.As a kitchen assistant you would work in areas where food is prepared, maintaining kitchen areas with good hygiene, keeping them clean and safe, whilst helping with the preparation of food. Helps the department achieve it’s goal of providing optimal nutritional care and highest standard of meal service to hospital patients by performing the following duties. Key Responsibilities and DeliverablesCarry out necessary cleaning tasks in order to maintain a clean, tidy and hygienic environment. Complete all relevant HACCP documentation to record the completion of above duties.Sweep/mop floors/uses scrubber during service and at the time of the shift.Wash up all soiled crockery, cutlery, glassware, pots and pans. Unload deliveries, collect waste and carry it to refuse bins Collects and places rubbish in designated containers. Breaks down cardboard boxes. Lift and carry heavy items – using correct manual handling techniques.Stocks storeroom and freezer, rotating supplies for first and last out.Stocks canteens and other areas as requested by CMT/Supervisor’sParticipates in quality control and quality improvement data gathering.Setting up teas, coffees and refreshments for function if needed and clearing away following function.Observe the correct use and care of equipment reporting any defect in materials or equipment properly. Food preparation. With training given, be capable of developing ones skill’s to assist the chef’s with the production of foodstuff’s.Follow HACCP guidelines and ensure that all the necessary information is being recorded accurately and efficiently.Observes infection control and HACCP policies in food handling storage, wearing gloves and proper protective equipment. Knows and follows hospital policies, procedures and practices in compliance with legislations and JCI requirements.Knows and follows fire and disaster plan, Manual Handling technics, use PPE if needed. Has full knowledge and uses correctly, the chemicals used for cleaning in the kitchen and follow SDS.Provide assistance to other staff if needed.Follows all health and safety duties as per training, to keep yourself and your colleagues safe. Undertakes deep cleans as per delegated. Any other duties, which may be necessary from time to time Person SpecificationQualificationsGood General HealthFlexibility to meet department requirementExperience Minimum 1 year relevant work experience.Must have previous knowledge of Food Hygiene and a willingness to attend trainings in same, as provided by the Beacon Hospital.Important the candidate shows a keen interest in their self-development as a potential future chef.Job SpecificCompetencies and KnowledgeObserves all infection control policies for proper food handling, storage, hand washing, glove wearing, uniform and grooming. All posts in Beacon Hospital require a high level of flexibility to ensure the delivery of an effective and efficient service. Therefore, the post holder will be required to demonstrate flexibility as and when required by their manager or hospital management.
