Our team is responsible for buying and hedging PrepayPower’s electricity supplies from the wholesale electricity market (ISEM) in Ireland, and our gas from the wholesale gas markets. Working with our short-term trading team, we will also acquire and trade power on the spot markets. The Forward Trading team is also responsible for forecasting our customer’s electricity and gas demand on both a daily, weekly, and longer-term basis. Furthermore, we work with the wider business to develop customer insights based on our smart meter data and to continue using data to support our product development Main ResponsibilitiesAssist management in the development and execution of hedge strategies through modelling and market analysisBe responsible for the settlement of our hedging contracts and market positionsAssist in the production of board-level reports on our hedged position and trading activitiesBe part of the trading rota for the team and assist in day-to-day trading activities where requiredDevelop processes and systems to make working with data more efficientDevelop and maintain forecasting, trading, and reporting toolsMaintain our existing database of model inputs and reporting metricsAssist in the production of wholesale gas and electricity market reportsThe role requires a limited amount of out of hours trading supportSkills & ExperienceWe recognise that you may not have all of these skills, but we are looking for someone who exhibits some of them and has a drive and aptitude for continuous learning and development.Our work is heavily data-based, as such the candidate should have a third-level degree in a quantitative subject such as engineering, physics, maths, science, or data analytics. Advanced degrees such as Masters or Ph.D.’s and/or 1-2 years of work experience in power or commodity markets would be an advantage. The candidate should have an understanding, or the ability to gain an understanding of tools used to store, query, and process databases.
