The College has a national advisory role in relation to medical standards and engages with the Medical Council, Department of Health and Children, the Health Service Executive and the Health Information & Quality Authority among others. As a membership organisation, the College is responsible for providing and supporting the continuous professional development for general practitioners, numbering over 4,000. The Irish College of GP's is the PGTB accredited by the Medical Council to provide professional training for doctors wishing to enter the specialty of General Practice. About GP TrainingThe College is undergoing a period of significant growth in line with Irish health workforce demands. Consequently, the total number of doctors in GP training is growing significantly.  GP Trainers are at the centre of the GP training model and critical to delivery of training. Their contracts for service continue to be managed by the HSE, however the College increasingly needs to seek trainer input and participation. Please email hr@icgp.ie to discuss any accommodations required. Job Purpose These new roles have been created to provide comprehensive support and guidance to GP trainers in critical areas such as governance, policy formation, competence progression committees, and trainee recruitment. Trainer contracts for service and any IR issues will continue to be managed by the HSE.   The National GP Trainer Liaison Leads will work in close collaboration and with the support of the National Director of Specialist Training in General Practice to ensure the highest standards of training and development for GP trainees. The leads will have access to central support including administration. Key Result Areas   1.Provide support and guidance to trainers, ensuring they receive the necessary assistance without being solely responsible for all aspects.  Develop support and mentoring for trainers ensuring they are motivated, encouraged, developed, and engaged. Continuously offer support and advice to GP trainers on governance, policy implementation, and training best practices. Offer guidance on addressing trainee issues, including performance, progression, and welfare concerns.  2.Stakeholder engagement and collaboration:  Facilitate communication and collaboration among trainers, trainees, and other stakeholders. Assist and advise the National Director with all matters in relation to the trainers, liaison with the HSE and other stakeholders.  Participate in national and regional meetings, workshops, conferences and committees.   3.Governance and policy formation: Ensure compliance with national and local governance policies and procedures. Collaborate with the National Director of GP Training to develop and review policies related to GP training. Communicate policy changes and updates to GP trainers, ensuring clarity and understanding.  4.Trainer Recruitment: Develop clear trainer recruitment policies in collaboration with HSE.  Support the recruitment process for GP trainers, ensuring adherence to best practices and national guidelines.  5.Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement: Coordinate a thorough induction, upskilling and CPD programme for trainers. Gather and analyse feedback from trainers and trainees to inform enhancements to training programmes. Develop and implement a framework for quality assurance and implementation of GP clinical learning environments, including practice visits and trainer accreditation.  Promote a culture of continuous learning and development within GP training and trainer workshops.  Person Specification    Qualifications & experience  Qualifications: Must hold the MICGP qualification, be registered with the Medical Council of Ireland on the Specialist Division for general practice, be a current College member in good standing and be in compliance with PCS, have no less than 5 years of postgraduate medical experience in General Practice. Trainer: Must be a GP trainer for at least 2 years Clinical: Concurrently hold a part time clinical appointment equivalent to a minimum of three sessions of clinical general practice per week. Strategy: Must enjoy a level of strategic thinking, be open to new perspectives and better ways to do things; and be creative, a visionary, and manage innovation well. Results- driven: Must have evidence managing tasks that have tight deadlines.   Behavioural competencies  Decision-making skills: Must display superior decision-making skills.  Leadership: Must have the ability to mentor and grow high performing teams. Communication: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, proven ability to build rapport with diverse individuals and inspire trust and confidence. Positive approach to dealing with challenges and conflict.  Self-Starter: Must enjoy working with high performing professional teams, be a team player that displays well developed emotional intelligence attributes.  Adaptability:  Must enjoy working in a dynamic, fast paced, multitasking environment. Key benefits of working at ICGP include:·      An inclusive working environment where wellbeing, diversity and equality are actively promoted.
