Job Title: General Practice Clinical Rural Fellowship (3 positions available)Reporting to: Medical Director, ICGP & University Academic LeadBase: Local GP practice / Hybrid WorkingContract type: Fixed term: 2 years full time 60% clinical work in a rural practice identified by the HSE and 40% in the discipline of General Practice at either the University of Galway or University College Cork About the ICGP The Irish College of General Practitioners is the postgraduate training body (PGTB) responsible for postgraduate education, training and research in the specialty of General Practice. The College has a national advisory role in relation to medical standards and engages with the Medical Council, Department of Health, the Health Service Executive and the Health Information & Quality Authority among others. As a membership organisation, the ICGP is responsible for providing and supporting the continuous professional development for general practitioners, numbering over 4,000. The ICGP is the PGTB accredited by the Medical Council to provide professional training for doctors wishing to enter the specialty of General Practice. The ICGP is an equal opportunities employer. The location of the practice will be rural, and subject to agreement with HSE. Funding has been obtained for three fellowship positions of two years duration each·      Two in HSE CHO2 (West) associated with the University of Galway GP practice locations: Rural Galway and/or Mayo ·      One in HSE CHO4 (South) associated with the University College Cork GP practice location: Rural Cork or Kerry The fellows will be employed by the ICGP and their work outputs overseen by a steering committee chaired by ICGP. This steering committee will include relevant representatives from primary care, HSE for CHO 2 and CHO 4, and the heads of discipline for General Practice at the University of Galway or University College Cork.Job Purpose These fellowship roles align with the Limerick declaration on rural healthcare 2022 which incorporates guiding principles based on a blueprint for rural healthcare. These guiding principles include rural healthcare needs and delivery; rural workforce; advocacy and policy; research for rural healthcare.These Fellowships are a Collaboration between HSE, the Irish College of General Practitioners and the Disciplines of General Practice at the University of Galway and University College Cork.Key result areas Prepare and deliver lectures and small group teaching including, for example, case based tutorials, communication and clinical skills and participate in formative and summative assessments at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.Contribute to student development and role modelling including career advice and formal mentoring.Support student placements in their own clinical practices.Support delivery of education via ICGP channels that may include webinars, contribution to Quick Reference Guides, online education, ezines, Forum articles.Complete a personal formal research and / or audit project with appropriate academic support.Participate in a common research project with other Rural Fellows with appropriate academic support.Work collaboratively with relevant stakeholders.Present academic work and that of the Rural Fellow role at national and international meetings.The university Head of Discipline may allocate appropriate other work for the Fellows.Person specification The ideal candidates will have the following knowledge, skills, expertise and competencies:Essential Qualifications & experience A fully qualified GP with MICGP (or equivalent) and a current member of the College in good standing or will hold such membership by time of taking up duties.Be registered with the Irish Medical Council of Ireland on the Specialist Division for General Practice.Be enrolled on and in compliance with the ICGP Professional Competence Scheme or will hold such enrollment by time of taking up duties.A demonstrable interest in rural practice.Interest in general practice education and research.Desirable criteriaArea(s) of special clinical interest relevant to rural general practicePrevious clinical experience in a rural settingDemonstrable connection to or experience of living in rural communitiesPostgraduate qualifications in education and / or researchPublished commentaries and / or research/auditBehavioral competencies Have demonstrated education and research skillsAbility to build and maintain strong relationships and advocate for the rural patientCompetent negotiator with excellent communication skillsAbility to design and deliver GP educationProven ability to evaluate and audit projectsDemonstrable understanding of common issues and challenges in rural general practicePlease note that communication in respect of this position will come from our recruitment platform Occupop so please review spam folders and settings to ensure that emails from Occupop will be delivered to your email address.
