Hosting over 1,000 events each year, we offer world class music and entertainment for all ages - enriching people's lives through music and the magic of live performance.Role summaryThe NCH is seeking suitable applications from candidates for the role of Front of House Usher.Front of House Ushers are responsible for the seating and the safety of patrons in all performance venues and offer the highest level of Customer Experience across the NCH to guests, donors, visiting artists, artist management, patrons, and any other member of the administration they may encounter. Key responsibilities· Scanning of tickets· Meet and greet duties· Politely directing and escorting patrons to their seats.· Programme sales· Cloakroom duties· Checking assigned section for cleanliness.· Visually sweep performance spaces to check for potential safety issues and lost and found items.· Be aware of and enforce appropriate house rules.· Remain at assigned post throughout the event unless taking an assigned break.· Must be aware of, and follow, the proper procedures for assisting patrons with disabilities.· Attend pre-event Usher briefings and other training as required by management.· Demonstrate a good understanding of evacuation procedures from all points within each performance space· To undertake any other duties which may be requested by the House Management TeamThe PersonEssential Requirements The essential skills required for this position include:· Excellent communication skills, including active listening, clear articulation and the ability to communicate effectively in English.· A confident, positive and passionate approach to the customer experience.· Ability to work well within a small, dedicated team.· Deal effectively with a wide variety of personalities and situations requiring diplomacy, tact, friendliness, poise and firmness· Have an ability to remain calm under pressure, patient at all times and capacity to be empathetic· Establish and maintain effective work relationships with colleagues· Demonstrate an understanding of sensitivity to and appreciation for the diverse ethnic, socio-economic, disability and gender diversity of guests and staff attending or working with the NCH· Work varied shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays with a 7-day liability.· Leaving Certificate or equivalent· Display a positive, people-oriented attitude · Possess a high level of attention to detail· Maintain a professional, neat and well-groomed appearance, adhering to NCH uniform policy.· Ability to climb steps repeatedly and descend/ascend ramps and inclines/declines· Ability to stand for long periods of time and to bend, stretch, reach and kneel without restriction.· Work in a fast-paced, busy environment with environmental conditions such as noise, dark/dim/absence of lighting.Desirable Requirements The following skills are desirable:· An interest in the NCH, cultural institutions and the performing arts. · Experience with cash handling. · First aid training· Receptionist skills · A basic knowledge of the Irish languageGeneralThe role is offered as a casual, part-time position with an hourly rate of pay of €16.65.Hours of attendance will be variable, with no guarantee that hours will be offered to you on a weekly basis.
