To work in the Interventional Radiology & CT department. QUALIFICATIONS· Be registered in the General Division of the active Register of Nurses held by Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).· Minimum of one year’s experience (post graduate or undergraduate) in General Medical/Surgical nursing plus 6 months experience working within a radiology department in an acute hospital setting/relevant clinical area within the past 5 years.· Have the clinical and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.· Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and can work collaboratively with a team.· Demonstrate evidence of continuing learning and professional development at the appropriate level. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES1. Patient Care:· Assess and monitor patients before, during, and after radiologic procedures.· Educate patients and their families about the procedures, addressing any questions or concerns.· Administer medications, including sedatives or contrast agents, as required.· Provide emotional support to patients, especially those who may be anxious or experiencing pain.· Demonstrate behaviour consistent with the Values within Blackrock Health.· Adhere to and uphold the Professional Code of Conduct for Nurses.· Maintain the primacy of patient care in all activities undertaken.· Ensure the provision of a high standard of care to the patient and families in the Radiology Department that is consistent with the mission, vision, values and strategic plan of the Hospital. 2. Clinical Duties:· Prepare patients for procedures by verifying medical history, allergies, and contraindications (e.g., to contrast dyes).· Assist radiologists and interventional radiologists during procedures, ensuring sterility and proper equipment handling.· Monitor vital signs and respond to any adverse reactions or medical emergencies during imaging or treatment.· Operate and manage specialized equipment, including intravenous (IV) pumps and monitors.· Liaise and work closely with the Radiology Department multidisciplinary team providing a quality service to patients.· Conduct comprehensive systematic assessment of patients, implementing and evaluating patient care.· Recognise changes in patients condition, taking the necessary actions and documenting accordingly.· Co-ordinate effective discharge from the department, liaising with relevant personnel promoting safe discharge. 3. Documentation:· Maintain accurate and timely records of patient care, including assessments, treatments, and outcomes.· Document the administration of medications, including contrast agents.· 4. Safety and Compliance:· Adhere to radiation safety protocols and educate patients on the same.· Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and standards of care.· Recognize and report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards promptly. 4. Collaborative Teamwork:· Work closely with the radiology team, including radiologists, technologists, and other nurses, to ensure seamless patient care.· Participate in interdisciplinary meetings to discuss patient care and procedural improvements.· Demonstrate clinical expertise and act as a resource for clinical information.· Provide informal and formal education sessions to staff and students within the organisation.· Actively engage in audit within the service. Explore current nursing practice, ongoing trends, evaluate improvements in the quality of care within the department· Participate in presenting findings to medical and nursing colleagues.· Participate in the development of services to provide comprehensive care for patients and their families.· Motivate colleagues by participating in setting and monitoring standards and objectives for clinical practice in conjunction with Clinical Nurse Managers. 5. Skills and Competencies:· Strong communication and interpersonal skills to educate and comfort patients.· Knowledge of imaging procedures, including CT, MRI, X-ray, fluoroscopy, and interventional radiology.· Ability to handle medical emergencies calmly and effectively.· Familiarity with sedation, contrast agents, and their potential side effects.· Strong organisational skills and attention to detail. 6. Work Environment:· Experience in Hospital radiology departments.· Fast-paced and may involve exposure to radiation, requiring adherence to radiation safety procedures.· Support the Radiology Services Manager in the implementation of initiatives aimed at improving and developing the service.· Comply with policies and procedures at Blackrock Clinic as regards Health & Safety, Infection Control, Disposal of Waste, Sharps, Accident and Incident Reporting, Complaints Procedure, Fire Policy and Evacuation.· Cooperate and take part in the Blackrock Clinic Mission Statement in dealing with patients and other clinic staff members.· Be familiar and comply with the Radiology Department Guidelines, Local Rules and Department Protocols. · Undertake, when necessary, administrative, and clerical tasks to facilitate the smooth running of the department.· Develop operational policies, protocols and guidelines to maximise resources and to ensure systematic audit of such usage.7. Management of Radiography Personnel· Initiate the implementation of a staff development and individual performance review and foster a high level of morale by motivation and communication.· Participate in the teaching, of new staff members.· Maintain up to date knowledge of new developments and promote awareness of these amongst colleagues.· Adhere to Human Resource policies as set out in The Blackrock Clinic Employee Manual.
