CMM Inspector

Our client, a leading aerospace and defence precision engineering company in Basildon, is seeking an exceptional CMM Inspector to join their Quality department.Your Key ResponsibilitiesConduct comprehensive first-off, interim, and batch inspections of high-precision machined components using state-of-the-art coordinate measuring machinesSelect appropriate CMM stylus configurations, extension bars, and probe heads to achieve optimal measurement accuracy and accessibilityDevelop bespoke metrology fixtures and datum referencing systems to ensure repeatable part alignment and GD&T verificationGenerate detailed inspection reports including Form & Profile analysis, Surface Finish measurements, and dimensional compliance to BS 8888 standardsAnalyse measurement data using Statistical Process Control (SPC) methodologies to identify process capability indices trendsOptimise CMM programming using DMIS routines to balance cycle time efficiency and measurement integrityCalibrate and maintain precision measurement equipment in accordance with UKAS guidelinesSupport continuous improvement initiatives through measurement system analysis (MSA) and gauge R&R studiesExperience & QualificationsProficient in PCDMIS and Calypso metrology software packages with proven programming experienceAdvanced skills in interpreting complex engineering drawings with GD&T callouts to ISO standardsExtensive experience with diverse measurement techniques including touch-trigger probing, scanning, vision systems, and optical CMMsDemonstrated capability with surface plate techniques, height gauges, micrometers, and shadowgraph equipmentHNC/HND in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent qualificationFamiliarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, or IATF 16949 quality management systems is highly desirableExperience creating detailed measurement plans and First Article Inspection documentationTechnical SkillsThorough understanding of measurement uncertainty principles and error compensation techniquesProficient in interpreting and applying geometric tolerancing standards (ISO 1101)Experienced in form measurement including roundness, straightness, flatness, and cylindricityCapable of conducting PPAP submissions and working with quality planning tools (APQP, FMEA)Competent with temperature-compensated measuring techniques in shop floor environmentsPersonal AttributesLogical problem-solver with meticulous attention to detail and passion for precisionStrong communication skills to effectively liaise with engineering, production, and customer quality representativesWell-organised with ability to prioritise workload under demanding customer and production timelinesSelf-motivated professional who takes pride in measurement accuracy and quality assuranceMust be able to commute to/relocate to Basildon areaUK work authorisation and driving licence required
