Clinical Nurse Specialist/Candidate Clinical Nurse Specialist (Tissue Viability)(Contract, Full Time)The role of the CNS in Tissue Viability is to ensure that the CNS specialist knowledge and skills in tissue viability are utilized to facilitate the provision of a quality client focused service that enhances the health status of that population.The post holder’s practice is based on the five core concepts of Clinical Nurse Specialist (Tissue Viability) role as defined by the NCNM 4th edition (2008) in order to fulfil the role. The concepts are: Clinical Focus, Patient/Client Advocate, Education and Training, Audit and Research, Consultant. Responsibilities - The post holder will be responsible for;Provide a specialist tissue viability nursing service for patients with complex wounds who require support and treatment through the continuum of care.Undertake comprehensive patient assessment to include physical, psychological, social and spiritual elements of care using best evidence based practice in tissue viability and within agreed interdisciplinary protocols to achieve patient / client centred outcomes.Identify and agree appropriate referral pathways for patients with complex wounds.Participate in case review with MDT colleagues.Use a case management approach to patients with complex needs in collaboration with MDT in both Primary and Secondary Care asappropriate.Maintain clinical competence in patient management within tissue viability nursing, keeping up-to-date with relevant research to ensure theimplementation of evidence based practice.Provide the patient, family and/or carer with appropriate information and other supportive interventions to increase their knowledge, skill andconfidence in managing their condition. The Mercy University Hospital is running a recruitment campaign at Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) level for Tissue Viability.The service believes that there is a limited applicant pool of Registered General Nurses with Tissue Viability Nursing Level 8 qualification and that posts may remain unfilled following completion of the CNS campaign. **Therefore in order to address this concern the Mercy University Hospital is running CNS and CNM2 (candidate CNS) campaigns concurrently.A candidate appointed at CNM2 level must pursue and obtain a CNS Level 8 Quality and Qualifications Ireland major academic award/qualification relevant to the specialist area of Tissue Viability within a 2 year period of appointment. Non-obtainment of the specialist qualification will lead to termination of this contract and redeployment within the organization. It is the services intention to initially fill Tissue Viability vacancies at a CNS level as appointees at this grade have already achieved a Level 8 Qualification in a relevant area.The academic fees for this programme will be supported by the Nursing and Midwifery Planning and Development Units (NMPDU) nationally.Any posts not filled by CNS appointees may be filled by the CNM2 (candidate CNS) panel created on foot of this campaign, as an interim measure.This post graded at a CNM2 level an interim measure.The CNS panel will take precedence over CNM2 panel. Eligibility Criteria - Candidates:Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition: Are registered in the General Nurse Division of the Register of Nurses and Midwives, as appropriate, maintained by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann) AndHave at least 5 years post registration experience of which 2 years must be in the related area.AndHave successfully completed a post registration programme of study, as certified by the education provider , which verifies that the applicant has achieved a Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI), National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) major academic Level 9 or higher award, or can provide written evidence from the Higher Education Institute that they have achieved the number of ECTS creditsequivalent to a Level 9 or higher standard, relevant to the specialist area of care – Tissue Viability- prior to applicationAndDemonstrate evidence of continuing professional development Candidates must possess the requisite clinical, leadership, managerial and administrative knowledge and ability for the proper discharge of the office (a) Nurses/midwives who are successful at interview for candidate CNS/CMS post will:Be offered a contract for a Candidate CNS/CMS post (Tissue Viability) at CNM1/CMM1 grade with a job description outlining the CNS/CMS competencies to be achieved.Be required to demonstrate their specialist experience or if they do not possess the relevant specialist experience, they will be supported to attain one year’s clinical specialist experienceBe required to demonstrate that they have completed the required postgraduate education, or agree and are supported to undertake the required postgraduate education, at level 9 qualification (equivalent to 60 ECTS or above) relevant to the specialist area.
