Clinical Nurse Specialist CNS /Candidate Clinical Nurse Specialist cCNS Out-patient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT)(O.5 WTE, Permanent)Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) is currently a treatment option for patients in Mercy University Hospital (MUH), and two other Hospital sites.The primary purpose of the role is to administer parenteral antimicrobial therapy outside of the hospital environment.For the purposes of the post the Clinical Nurse Specialist/Candidate CNS will be based at Mercy University Hospital Cork and facilitate the three sites across the city. The postholder will provide effective, high quality, integrated care for patients using the service. The postholder must be self-motivated and organized as part of an interdisciplinary team. The CNS /Candidate will have a key role in delivering education to patients and staff across all sites. This is a personalized service for patients whose profile includes, bone and joint infection, endocarditis, Bacteraemia ENT and neurosurgery The CNS/CCNS post holder will be hospital based;Is professionally accountable to the ADON Nurse Practice DevelopmentIs clinically accountable to the OPAT Clinical Lead responsible for the OPAT Programme Responsibilities - The post holder will be responsible for; Provide high quality care for patients using the OPAT Service.Practice nursing according to the Code of Professional Conduct and the Scope of Practice Framework as laid down by the Irish Nursing and Midwifery Board (An Bórd Altranais).Adhere to National, regional, and local Health Service Executive (HSE) guidelines, policies, protocols and legislation.Work within their scope of practice and take measures to develop and maintain the competence necessary for professional practice.Maintain a high standard of professional behaviour and be accountable for their practice.Be aware of ethical policies and procedures which pertain to their area of practice.Respect and maintain the privacy, dignity and confidentiality of the patient.Follow appropriate lines of authority within the Nurse Management structure.Develop and support OPAT clinics that provide weekly access for the patient to the OPAT team with a view to review and early switch to oral medications, as appropriate.Effectively manage referrals to the OPAT team that require ID/OPAT follow up including the education of patient/family member and health care professional colleagues in the patients care at home.Have access to the OPAT database and ensure the Private Provider has all the correct information available. Eligibility Criteria:Be registered in the General Division of the Register of Nurses kept by NMBIandCNS - Have at least 5 years post registration experience in the division of the register in which the applicant is currently practicing.cCNS – Have a minimum of one year, or an aggregate of one year’s full-time, post registration experience in the division of the register in which the applicant is currently practicing.CNS - Have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in the specialist area e.g., infectious diseases, infection control and prevention, acute medicine, community intervention teams, community infusion units or other community services where community/home therapy services where home IV antimicrobials services are provided. cCNS - Have a minimum of 1 years’ experience or aggregate of 1 year’s full-time experience in OPAT.orIf the applicant does not possess the relevant experience, they will be supported to attain one year’s clinical specialist experience.andCan practice safely and effectively fulfilling his/her professional responsibility within his/her scope of practice.andDemonstrate evidence of continuing professional development.andDesirable: Hold a Level 8 (National Qualifications Authority of Ireland) post-registration, major academic award relevant to the specialist area of Infectious Diseases/ ICU/ Respiratory/ Community nursing/ Infection control nursing.
