The Programme commenced in October 2019 and consists of the Irish College of GPs curriculum for Family Medicine contextualised to Malaysia. In 2024 there will be circa 380 trainees in total. The MInTFM Programme is delivered in a similar way to the Irish GP Training programme in a four-year training scheme, leading to registration on the National Specialist Register of Malaysia with family medicine being the cornerstone of all efficient health care systems. MInTFM Graduates are also eligible for entry on the Irish Specialist Register. The sharing of knowledge and expertise between the Irish and Malaysian training programmes is key to the continued success. Evidence shows that primary care effectively helps prevent illness and death. The means by which primary care improves health includes increasing access to health services for relatively deprived population groups, improved quality of clinical care, its impact on prevention, its impact on the early management of health problems, and the contribution of primary care to more appropriate care, thereby reducing unnecessary or inappropriate specialty care. Further information on the Malaysian Training Programme can be found at the following link: https://www.rumc.edu.my/mintfm/Job Purpose This prestigious, senior leadership role has a range of multi-faceted responsibilities and overall responsibility for the strategic delivery, development, expansion and standards of GP Training, referred as Family Medicine, in Malaysia. This varied, dynamic, fast paced role involves continuous interaction with a range of diverse, multi-cultural stakeholders directly and indirectly involved in the delivery of the programme. The post holder is accountable for ensuring the quality of the programme and maintaining the same standards with its Irish equivalent and proactively further enhancing the programme over the next 3 years. The post holder must be up to date with all major developments in Family Medicine, education and training in Ireland and internationally in order to provide leadership and co-ordination of all activities related to Family Medicine at both an operational and but most particularly at a strategic level in Malaysia. Note, this role will be supported by the GPT team based in Ireland and locally as and when required. Lead and manage the Scheme Directors and facilitate to deliver MInTFM Programme. This involves directly supporting, training and mentoring them as per their needs. Ensure that all direct and indirect reports are motivated, encouraged, developed, and engaged.Ensure that the programme is technologically innovative and up to date with current practices in relation to online and blended learning. Work closely with the Irish College of GPs to ensure that there are synergies, shared knowledge and alignment in this respect. Promote the Family Medicine Training and shape related policy through interaction with key multi-cultural stakeholders in Malaysia and Ireland. Be the face of MInTFM and advocate the promotion of Family Medicine when the opportunities arise. In keeping with the Irish College of GPs established standards, ensure the CSCT requirements are developed and fulfilled to the MInTFM Programme standards. Proactively develop, network and build relationships with a range of countrywide Family Medicine stakeholders, external agencies, national, international and Government departments such as Ministry of Health. Represent the MInTFM Programme at external events and stakeholder engagements.Report to the MInTFM Management & Board and also RUMC Board. This requires submission of detailed reports. Review, identify and support as required and within the governance and compliance requirements, local research projects related to Family Medicine. Encourage innovation and development at all levels. Oversee the course curriculum / material for Family Medicine in conjunction with the Programme Advisory Board and in collaboration with the Irish College of GPs, facilitate delivery of the eLearning modules at a national level. Oversee the facilitation of the examinations and liaise with the Exam committees as required. Monitor MInTFM results from both an operational and financial perspective working closely with the Head of Finance in RUMC and other key senior management team members. Person Specification Qualifications & experience Qualifications: Must hold the Irish College of GPs membership qualification, be registered with the Medical Council of Ireland on the Specialist Division for general practice, be a current College member in good standing and be in compliance with PCS, have no less than 5 years of postgraduate medical experience in General Practice.Clinical: Concurrently hold a part time clinical appointment equivalent to a minimum of four sessions of clinical general practice per week.Teaching: Experience of specialist training in General Practice, Irish or otherwise, release course teaching, research and programme administration, and/or recent experience as a G.P. Trainer.Leadership: Minimum of 10 years’ leadership and management experience ideally in the medical education or equivalent sectors, along with business acumen and ability to effectively manage, lead and supervise a multidisciplinary, multi- cultural team. Strategy: Must excel at strategic thinking, be open to new perspectives and better ways to do things; and be creative, a visionary, and manage innovation well.Completion-oriented: Must be results-driven and have evidence managing training programmes that have tight deadlines. Finance: A liking and understanding of financial & budgetary management with a good understanding of financial income streams. Technical competencies Competent user of all Microsoft Office packages.
