The primary role being to assist Nurses with nursing and associated duties.·          Will attend training on the safe administration of medication if required to do so to meet the changing needs of the service.·          Will adhere to Peamount Healthcare policies at all times in the delivery of care.·          Be familiar with the vulnerability of service users and have knowledge of the policy on the protection of vulnerable adults.Specific Accountability Hygiene·          Bath, shower, dress and undress the resident as directed.·          Shave male residents.·          Supervise and assist the resident when using/removing and emptying bed-pans, commodes, in toilets and bathrooms and associated hygiene.·          Help the resident to wash teeth and dentures and assist with associated hygiene needs.·          Care for the resident’s soiled clothes.·          Assist with the care of the unconscious resident.·          Assist with the care of the incontinent resident.·          Assist residents who are confined to bed with their toilet needs.·          Assist with bed bathing and in caring for the resident’s hair and finger nails.·          As requested give and remove bedpans, urinals, commodes, and disposal of excreta (check first with Registered Nurse). Use of bed pan washer disinfector. Nutrition ·          Help to prepare and support the resident during meal times.·          Feed the helpless resident as directed.·          Cut up food for residents.·          Ensure residents dietary needs are adhered to, including special diets or supplementary drinks under the direction of the nursing staff.·          Prepare and serve food/drinks outside of normal catering hours and collect crockery etc. where necessary. Assist residents to complete menu cards where necessary. Mobilisation  ·          Assist to lift and position residents.·          Assist the resident with walking and limb exercises as directed.·          Assist with turning and re-positioning residents. Ensure the resident is comfortable in beds and on chairs. General Duties ·          Make unoccupied beds and at all times ensure that the unit is tidy.·          Move beds and furniture within ward as requested.     The following duties are necessary duties outside kitchen staff normal working hours: ·          Ensure that hygiene standards for food handlers are followed when assisting at mealtimes.·          Setting trays.·          Distributing and collecting trays/crockery.·          Ensuring residents have fresh drinking water.·          Ensure kitchen is clean and tidy after use.·          Serving dinner and tea·          Washing up of crockery.·          Mopping of dinning room floor in the evening. The following tasks need to be undertaken at the request of Registered Nurses: ·          Assist with confused or agitated resident following assessment by nursing staff.·          Escort/transport the resident within or outside the Hospital as required.·          Remain with residents who require custodial supervision.·          Assist with the last offices and preparation of the deceased for transfer to the mortuary. Resident Admission ·          Check that bed and locker are prepared, water jug and the necessary documentation and information for the next service user.·          Deal with resident’s personal property (except medications, money or other valuables) in accordance with hospital policy. Resident Discharge ·          Assist residents to dress and pack in preparation for discharge.·          Change ward curtain as requested.·          Report broken items in need of repair to Clinical Nurse Manager/Staff Nurse.Communication ·          Report any complaint of pain, distress expressed by residents.·          Ensure that resident’s right to choice is respected.·          Answer telephones, locate appropriate personnel and direct enquires concerning resident’s condition to nursing staff.·          Receive and direct visitors within the ward.·          Assist residents to make telephone calls.·          Answer call bells and report resident requests to nursing staff. Ensure that bells are in working order and are within the reach of the resident.·          Excellent communication skills required.·          Communicate with clients in a respectful and sensitive manner.Social Inclusion·          Encourage and assist residents with activities that provide socialisation, mental and physical stimulation.·          Willingness to take part in any training that is deemed necessary to enhance the role.·          Encourage and support residents to become part of their community environment.·          Support residents to engage in community activities. ·          Support residents to set goals as per their wish and preference.  Other requirementsspecific to the post·          Be familiar, comply with the Hospital policies in relation to Health and Safety, Fire Safety, major disaster, infection control, waste disposal including disposal of soiled linen, smoking policy and resident charter.·          Ensure that you are up to date with all Mandatory training.·          Report all incidents involving self, residents or visitors to Clinical Nurse Manager or Staff Nurse in charge.·          Assist with emergency first aid as
