QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE Essential Criteria (i) Possess the BSc in Clinical Measurement from Technology University of Dublin or equivalent.Or(ii) Possess the Certificate in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement (MPPM) from Dublin Institute of Technology or equivalent.Or Possess an equivalent relevant qualification (Level 8).And (iii) Candidates must be able to demonstrate the clinical capacity and administrative capacity associated with the role. · Accreditation as a vascular scientist or near accreditation · Evidence of personal professional development. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES1. Assessment, Planning, Implementation and Evaluation 1.1 To perform and interpret the following: Carotid Ultrasound, Ankle/Brachial Index and DVT. Venous, Lower Limb Arterial, Laser vein guidance is an advantage but not a requirement. 1.2 To be responsible for accurate storing of reports generated from the above tests. 1.3 Keep accurate documentation of these procedures. Have adequate knowledge of the products required during these procedures. 1.4 To ensure that all records are properly and accurately maintained. 1.5 To participate in patient care, i.e. preparation and reassurance. 1.6 To be professionally responsible for all aspects of the post holders own work. 1.7 Participate in the teaching, training and supervision of new and junior staff. 1.8 Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and guidelines. 1.9 Plan work to allow time for training, meetings etc. 1.10 Provide a safe, comprehensive service based on current standards and research, perform procedures according to established policy and procedures. 1.11 Maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and colleagues. 1.12 Advocate as necessary for the patients, respecting their dignity and confidentiality. 1.13 Function effectively in an emergency situation. 1.14 Adapt to changing workloads. 1.15 Know and practice within legal requirements including those set down by the Society of Vascular Technicians of Great Britain and Ireland. 1.16 Maintain up to date knowledge of Vascular developments and promote awareness of new developments. 1.17 Report any malfunction or defects in equipment relevant to the Vascular department. 1.18 Support the Head of Department in the implementation of initiatives aimed at improving and developing the service of the Vascular department. 1.19 Undertake when necessary administrative and clerical duties to facilitate the smooth running of the department. 1.20 Evaluate practice as compared to standards of care and know own ability and competence. 1.21 Participate in quality assurance by assisting to identify recurrent problems and co-operate in data collection and problem solving. 2. Communication Skills 2.1 Maintain documents according to the policies and procedures of Blackrock Clinic. 2.2 Update documents to observe physical and emotional symptoms and changes. 2.3 Report relevant information verbally and in writing to appropriate personnel. 2.4 Respond appropriately to patient/family requests and questions. 2.5 Communicate appropriate with colleagues and other members of the health care team. 2.6 Recognise self-limitations and seek assistance. 2.7 Attend and contribute in staff meetings and team briefing. 2.8 Communicate in a manner that avoids antagonism, reduces conflict and prevents undue anxiety.3. Professional Expectations 3.1 Function within the limits of The Society of Vascular Technicians of Great Britain and Ireland and hospital policies, procedures and standards. 3.2 Support the Mission Statement of Blackrock Clinic. 3.3 Observe appropriate lines of authority. 3.4 Demonstrate flexibility by assisting in other areas of the hospital as required. 3.5 Set annual goals and objectives with the Head of Department. 3.6 Continue to develop personal knowledge and skills. 3.7 Seek and take education opportunities in addition to those provided by the hospital. 3.8 Provide direct supervision to other members of the team when appropriate. 3.9 Participate in working groups to develop and promote quality care within Blackrock Clinic. 3.10 Participate in the education of learners and assist with the orientation of new personnel. 3.11 Present a professional appearance and is punctual. 3.12 Accept responsibility for “Acting Up” in specific instances, as assigned.
