2024/86 - Locum Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology  The Rotunda Hospital Dublin is a large Tertiary Referral Unit, delivering 8500 to 9000 women per annum.In the Rotunda, the Obstetrics and Gynaecology team provides a full gynaecological and maternity service including participation in an on-call rota in obstetrics and gynaecology. This includes operating, outpatient and inpatient care responsibilities for obstetrics, emergency and elective gynaecologic surgery in addition to participation in the administrative, academic and educational activities of the Rotunda Hospital. Purpose of the PostsThe high-level purpose of the post is to optimise the service provision of obstetrics and gynaecology which may include adolescent paediatric and gynaecological care in the Rotunda and CHI Temple Street. Eligibility CriteriaQualifications and/ or experienceRegistration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland in the specialty of obstetrics and gynaecology.Demonstrate up to date knowledge of all aspects of general Obstetrics and Gynaecology practice. Previous experience in paediatric and adolescent gynaecology is beneficial but not mandatory.Full registration in the General Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland or entitlement to be so registered.AndThe possession of the MRCPI or MRCOG or a qualification in Obstetrics / Gynaecology equivalent theretoAndInclusion on or eligibility to be included on the Register of Specialists maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland Entry to competition / recruitment processNo candidate will be appointed as a Medical Consultant unless (s)he is registered as a Specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland.Successful candidates must be registered as a Specialist in the relevant Specialty on the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland within 180 days of the day of interview.Should the successful candidate not be registered as a Specialist at that time, the post may be offered to the next suitable candidate. Should no suitable candidate exist, a further recruitment process may be initiated. HealthA candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.  CharacterEach candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.AgeAge restrictions shall only apply to a candidate where he/she is not classified as a new entrant (within the meaning of the Public Service Superannuation Act, 2004). A candidate who is not classified as a new entrant must be under 65 years of age on the first day of the month in which the latest date for receiving completed application forms for the office occurs.Section 62 PostIt is noted that these posts of Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologists are considered to carry with them duties involving the teaching of clinical medicine and/or the conduct of medical research under the direction of Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland.
