We are seeking to expand our pool of QAA Visitors to include registered nurses, midwives and nursing associates that can perform the role of the Student Visitor in the delivery of quality assurance reviews. You must hold NMC registration without any conditions or restrictions on practice and candidates applying for this role must be one of the following: A newly qualified registered Nurse, Midwife or Nursing Associate who registered with NMC within the last three years.ORA registered Nurse or Midwife who is completing or has completed an NMC postgraduate programme in the last three yearsThis is an exciting time to join an organisation with an essential role in the UK’s tertiary education sector. Our work safeguards the value of qualifications for students and learners and protects and promotes the reputation of higher education.About the role Full title: Student Visitor for the delivery of quality assurance services to the Nursing and Midwifery CouncilThe NMC sets standards of education, training, conduct and proficiency for nurses, midwives in the UK and nursing associates in England. These shape the content and design of programmes and state the standards of proficiency of a registered nurse, midwife and registered nursing associate. The NMC also sets post-registration standards related to specialist community public health nursing and specialist practice qualifications. The NMC’s role in the quality assurance of education is based on whether education institutions and their practice learning partners meet their standards for education and training, and supervision and assessment, to ensure that pre- and post-registration education meets the relevant programme standards.As a Student Visitor you will work as part of a team to apply your subject knowledge and experience to undertake quality assurance activities on behalf of the NMC. This includes analysing documentation from universities, colleges and their practice learning partners against the published NMC standards and visiting these institutions to make recommendations on institutional and programme approval, modification and monitoring. The time commitment depends on the activities you are offered and choose to accept and is likely to involve desk-based activity over a series of weeks or months, culminating in a visit to the institution seeking approval. Invitations to participate are based on the suitability of your current registration and recorded qualification to the programmes under review. Further details about the main duties and responsibilities, and the knowledge and skills required, can be found in the job description. If successfully appointed to this role, you would be joining QAA’s reviewer pool and may therefore be eligible to take part in other QAA review activity across the UK and internationally. Fees for each quality assurance activity are confirmed at the point you are invited to participate in a review, and expenses can be claimed in line with our Travel and Subsistence Expenses Policy. Completion of generic and method training will be required prior to undertaking any quality assurance activity.  About you To apply, you must be actively registered on one or more parts of the NMC register and hold a post-qualifying award in nursing and/or midwifery and/or nursing associate. You must also be currently working in a nursing and/or midwifery education and/or practice role. You must be on the NMC register without any conditions or restrictions on practiceYou must have an awareness of the NMC standards for education and training and be able to provide an analytical and objective view when reviewing documentation and making decisions. Also, knowledge of current issues impacting on healthcare and health education and an understanding of how educational and health needs differ with regards to equality and diversity matters. Knowledge of assuring academic standards and quality in academia is desirable, this could include supporting student panels in quality activities in a university setting and/or contributing to student voice activities such as student representation groups. Further to this experience of supporting, supervising or assessing and/or overseeing the achievements of students in an education or practice setting is desirable. A satisfactory standard Criminal Record check by QAA is also a requirement for this role.Further information More information can be found in the job description.
